How Sorvate C Ointment Works

Sorvate C is a combination of two medicines: Calcitriol and Clobetasol which treat psoriasis. Calcitriol is a form of vitamin D. It works by reducing the overproduction of skin cells that may build up and form scales on the skin. Clobetasol is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy.

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and gently massage the ointment.

Sorvate C is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

Quick Tips

  • If you are using a moisturizer along with this preparation, apply the moisturizer first. Then wait 10-15 minutes before applying Sorvate C.
  • Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight than normal while you are using Sorvate C. Try to avoid sitting out in the sun and do not use sunbeds.
  • Don't cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 2 weeks of treatment.
  • Do not apply it on open wounds and cuts.
  • Sorvate C is used to treat the redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort associated with psoriasis.
  • Apply to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor.
  • It is advisable to apply it once a day. For best effect, leave it on during the day if you have applied it in the morning, or overnight if you have used it in the evening.
