FAQ

Question
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Oflosign?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Answer

Question
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Oflosign?
Oflosign can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Oflosign. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Answer

Question
What if I give an overdose of Oflosign by mistake?
An extra dose of Oflosign is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.
Answer

Question
My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Oflosign? Is it normal?
Oflosign contains active ingredient metronidazole, which causes red-brown urine. It is not pathogenic but a side effect. It subsides once the medicine is stopped after the completion of the treatment.
Answer

Question
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Oflosign for the prescribed duration?
It could mean that Oflosign is unable to kill the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic that has a higher efficacy against the disease-causing bacteria. Remember, that sometimes, such antibiotics may have to be given by IV route (intravenous injection) in the hospital.
Answer

Question
What should I tell the doctor before giving Oflosign to my child?
You must tell the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because there is a possibility that Oflosign may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
Answer

Question
Can Oflosign be given along with cough and cold medicines?
No, do not give Oflosign with cough and cold medicines. The reason being, one of the ingredients present in Oflosign can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups and can lead to disulfiram reaction, causing nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
Answer

Question
How should Oflosign be stored?
Store Oflosign at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Children may accidentally consume medicines if they find them while playing around. So, make sure that all the medicines are kept away from their reach and sight.
Answer
Question
What if you forget to take Oflosign?
Do not panic. You can give the medicine as soon as you remember unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child. However, you should skip the dose if the next scheduled dose is near. In case of any confusion, do consult your doctor and do not double the dose to catch up.
Answer

Oflosign Syrup Reviews

Oflosign is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.

Give Oflosign to your child orally, preferably at a fixed time, either before or after meals. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with meals. Generally, this medicine is prescribed to be given two times a day, in the morning and evening. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but do not double the dose if it is time for the next dose. Never change the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor since these depend upon the type and severity of the infection, your child’s age, and body weight.

In some cases, this medicine may cause some minor and temporary side effects, including nausea, vomiting, weight loss, metallic taste, headache, loss of appetite, abdominal cramps, and mild skin rash. These side effects are temporary and recede when your child gets used to the medicine. In case the side effects persist or start bothering your child, consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history to your child’s doctor, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

How Oflosign Syrup Works

Oflosign is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.

How to Use Oflosign Syrup

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Oflosign may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

  • In Treatment of Bacterial infections: Oflosign is an antibiotic medicine given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections such as tooth abscess, gum infection, pneumonia, diarrhea, dysentery, peritonitis, burning sensation while passing urine, and certain genital tract infections. This medicine inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria by stopping it from multiplying. You may start seeing an improvement in the infection within 3 to 5 days of regular dosing.
